Specialized's Top Cap Chain Tool replaces your top cap and places a chain tool and spare chain quick link inside your bicycle fork's steerer tube. This way you'll never forget your chain tool. FOR HOT MELT WAXING: Start with a new, factory chain with SILCA Secret Blend Hot Melt, simply immerse the chain in the Ultimate Chain Stripper and Wax Prep. Agitate for 30 seconds. Allow to sit for 5-10 minutes. Agitate, again, for 30 seconds. Remove the chain from the stripper solution and rinse with water. Rinsing removes the encapsulated factory grease/oils. Drop the chain directly into the hot wax. Any remaining liquid will boil off within a few minutes. Once the chain is fully waxed, the chain prep/primer will provide up to 30% longer life than a chain cleaned by traditional methods. THE COMPLETE SYSTEM : Far and away, the largest hurdle for cyclists converting to a waxed drivetrain has always been the complex process of completely stripping the factory lubricant from the chain. Traditionally, the process of removing the factory grease can involve using 2-3 different harsh solvents with multiple rinse steps. The purpose of the process is to prepare the chain surface to promote proper wax adhesion. During the cleaning, the chain moves from non-polar solvents that thin greases and oils to progressively more polar solvents that evaporate quickly to eliminate residues. The time needed for each step depends on the amount of grease and oils, but this process could be an hour or more. In the end, we’ve identified three major complaints about prepping the chain for a hot wax treatment: the complexity of the cleaning process; the money needed for the extra solvents and equipment; and the time involved to complete each step. When designing the SILCA Ultimate Chain Stripper and Wax Prep formula, we started at the end of the process and worked backward. We identified chemicals that drive out greases and oils while promoting wax adhesion to metal. And here’s what we discovered: an organic cleaner that lifts and encapsulates greases and oils allowing them to easily be rinsed away from the metal surface. The result is the world’s first wax-optimized chain cleaner which not only removes greases and oils but primes the metal surface for improved adhesion for wax-based lubricants. The aggressive ‘lift and encapsulate’ formula of SILCA’s Ultimate Chain Stripper and Wax Prep allows for two quick and easy cleaning applications.

When we launched Secret Chain Lube, Josh admitted that the starting point for this product was a hot wax recipe he had used for years with pro teams that had won numerous world and Olympic medals. SILCA Super Secret Chain lube started out as a project to develop the fastest hot-melt wax lubricant available more than a year ago. Josh has been recommending Hot Melt Wax and helping Pro cyclists and triathletes wax chains for years and wanted to bring his lubricant formula to our customers, the challenge was how to consistently melt, dip and agitate the chain across different crockpot designs and temperatures.  The project took a fascinating turn from the world of IndyCar when Josh was introduced to a group that had developed a technology to put micro-scale wax powders into a solution that was quick-drying and forms a coating that is indiscernible from hot melt dipping. The combination of air-drying liquid wax and Tungsten Disulfide would quickly prove to beat all currently available hot-melt waxes in friction testing while being much faster and easier to apply. Best of all perhaps is that this formula would prove to be very environmentally friendly, utilizing 4 different types of wax, nanoplatelets of WS2 (Tungsten Disulfide), and mild alcohol to act as a carrier. This same alcohol is used in the SILCA Gear Wipes, making them a perfect product to clean and remove Secret Chain Lube. - 4 oz. and 8 oz. bottles with the precision applicator tip for dripping on your chain, or 12oz lube (leaving room for your chain) for dipping the chain - The chain should be VERY clean and dry before applying - Apply according to video and let dry for AT LEAST 12 hours for optimal results, 24 hours if applied in cool or humid weather conditions!
