Specialized Bicycle Components

Specialized

Specialized Bicycle Components was formed in 1974 as a bike parts importer when founder Mike Sinyard discovered a need for an easier way to obtain Italian cycling components. Their first manufactured product was the Turbo road tire in 1976. Specialized’s claim to fame is that in 1981, they were the very first company to offer a factory manufactured mountain bike that could be afforded by the common man. An example of their first Stumpjumper is displayed in the Smithsonian Institute. Specialized have become a world leader in bicycle science, manufacturing, and innovation. They have pioneered the Body Geometry fit and comfort design and manufacturing philosophy which has improved the comfort and performance for cyclists of every discipline.

Specialized sponsor professional racers in just about every aspect of the sport. Top awards (The UCI Rainbow jersey) have been won by a Specialized sponsored rider in Road Race, Time Trial, Mountain Bike Cross Country, and Mountain Bike Downhill in the last 3 years, along with many other titles. The very first UCI Mountain Bike Championship was won in 1990 by Ned Overend atop his Specialized Stumpjumper. They make many famous bikes such as the Tarmac, Roubaix, Allez, Tri-Cross, Langster Fixie, Secteur, Rockhopper, Hardrock, Crossroads, Stumpjumper, Epic, S-Works, and their Fatboy Fatbikes.
